CAMP PILGRIM:
REFUSING TO SETTLE

Our Camp theme comes from the passage in Genesis 11:27-32 where it records that Terah began the journey to Canaan but stopped in Haran. Haran felt like a step forward, but it was a familiar place and it was not full obedience.

We often face the same temptation: to move just enough to feel like we have changed, but not far enough to follow through on God’s call. The life of faith is a pilgrimage, not a stopover. If God has called us to Canaan, we cannot afford to settle in Haran. We are not called to camp out in comfort, but to press on in obedience. Faith is not about arriving quickly, it is about refusing to stop short.

We believe the Lord has sounded a clear charge for us to not settle where we are, but to step fully into what He has in store for us. This year’s camp will take our community deeper into what it truly means to refuse to settle — to push past safe, familiar faith and say yes to God’s deeper call. We feel the Spirit is calling us into something deeper, somewhere we have not gone before.

Would you answer the call?

  • Dear Church,

It is such an honour and privilege to be part of the camp committee and leading you in this church camp. As we take time off from our daily routines and the grind of life, I would like to encourage you that you are not here by accident or merely making up the numbers. You have been specifically called to be part of this journey and are brought here by divine appointment. He wants to encounter you like never before! This is the Father’s heart – to embrace, love and hold you tightly simply because He is love!

We have been sensing a shift in the church atmosphere the past couple of weeks and it is by no coincidence that we have been also challenged in our faith, thoughts, and actions in this season. As we journey together, many of us may be wondering if the "next season" has arrived and if we have crossed over to the other side. As I write this, the Lord is reminding me to not to settle for anything less than His full presence; He is nudging me, chasing after me and wanting to draw me even closer to Him than before. He is telling me that I have only caught a glimpse of who He really is. There is more.

Camp Pilgrim is not a break from work, school or life, but it is a sacred and precious opportunity to encounter our loving Father in a deeper way. It is a time to lay everything down and open up our hearts fully to Him! Jeremiah 29:13 says: "You will seek me and find me when you seek Me with ALL your heart." That is the invitation that God is extending to us right now! That is the "ALL" He desires from us.

Church, let us refuse to settle for anything less than what the Lord wants for us. Let us continue to press in both individually and as a community to chase after His presence. This camp is not the end, it is just the beginning of something powerful and new. Let us seek Him together and watch what He can do.

    Refusing to settle,
    Clarence Yong
    Camp Commandant
